Purpose of Processing – What Do We Use Your Data For?

MentorPlaces' primary mission is to provide high-quality information about courses, professions, scholarships, educational institutions, and similar matters, with the main objective of helping users choose the course and/or educational institution that best suits their personal needs and professional development.

The information provided on our Website has been developed by MentorPlaces professionals who, based on their experience, access to public and private information sources, surveys of students, and/or the exchange of information with educational institutions and professional guidance counselors, have collected and organized such information so that it is intelligible and usable by users. Artificial intelligence tools are used in this process.

The information is presented to users in multiple formats within the Website, including course listings, educational institution profiles, monographic articles by category, educational articles, degree search tools, personalized reports, regulatory information, and similar content.

When you interact with our Website, you provide us, through questionnaires, tools, web forms, posts and other means, with information that may contain personal data such as your name, email address, telephone number, postal code, level of education, educational interests, and similar data. This information, combined with the characteristics of courses and educational institutions, allows us to preselect the courses that best match your needs.

The amount of data collected will therefore depend on the interactions and use you make of the Website as a user. The greater the amount of data collected by MentorPlaces, the better the educational guidance service and the preselection of educational institutions and centers that we can provide to you.

Just as the information you provide may help with the preselection of courses, it may also help to filter or inform you about services offered by third parties that may be useful to prospective students, such as accommodation services, financing options, civil service examination preparation services, and similar offerings.

Therefore, the purpose of processing the personal data you provide as a User is primarily to provide the services set out in the Website's Legal Notice, including intermediation requested by the User, namely:

  • To send you information about courses, professions, scholarships, educational institutions and universities, and any other content related to education and vocational training, whether for individuals and/or companies, as well as to provide you with educational and career guidance services.
  • To put you in contact with training centers, educational institutions or training companies you have expressed interest in.
  • To put you in contact with and provide the necessary information to providers of educational or related services offered by third parties, such as accommodation services, civil service examination preparation services, financing services, and similar offerings, with whom MentorPlaces has or is in the process of establishing commercial or collaboration agreements, and in which you have expressed interest (Commercial Partners).
  • To send you commercial and/or promotional information from educational institutions, training centers, training companies and Commercial Partners related to your preferences.

Some of the recommendations, communications or contacts that the User may receive may be linked to commercial agreements with educational institutions or partner companies. In such cases, MentorPlaces may receive financial compensation for intermediation or lead generation, without prejudice to the fact that recommendations are made based on the User's data and preferences. In addition, the personal information collected may be used to:

  • Facilitate your use of the Website across its different sections and versions, for example by recognizing you when you return to the Website, improving and personalizing your user experience, or saving your previous searches.
  • Provide you with academic guidance services, accompanying you over time in the development of your professional and educational career. Communication may be carried out by telephone and/or electronic means and/or instant messaging.
  • Collect and manage your comments, whether through the Website or by telephone, regarding the service provided by MentorPlaces, educational centers and institutions, or our Commercial Partners, in the context of the provision of services.
  • Develop suitability models between users and educational institutions, based on fully anonymized historical and statistical information, in order to improve the service provided and its effectiveness. Segmentation profiles may also be created to improve the personalization of the Website and communications.
  • Administratively manage relationships, including commercial relationships, between the Website and the third parties indicated above, including the verification and/or detection of successfully completed transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with the Terms of Use, including the prevention of fraud and unauthorized use, as well as compliance with applicable law.

The means used to provide users with the information and services mentioned above may include any communication channel, such as email, SMS, telephone calls, instant messaging, or similar means.

Legal Basis

The processing of personal data by MentorPlaces is based on the following legal grounds set out in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR): a) Performance of a contract or application of pre-contractual measures (art. 6.1.b GDPR). When the User:

  • Registers on the Website
  • Requests academic or professional guidance
  • Requests to be contacted
  • Requests information about courses, training centers or educational institutions

The processing of personal data is necessary in order to manage and attend to the request made by the User, provide the requested service, carry out a personalized academic diagnosis or guidance, prepare recommendations linked to such request and, where applicable, formulate a proposal for professional advisory services related to the User's request. This processing is strictly limited to the time and scope necessary to manage the request and may include contact by telephone, email, instant messaging or similar means, always in direct relation to the request made by the User. b) Legitimate interest (art. 6.1.f GDPR). MentorPlaces may process the User's data on the basis of its legitimate interest in order to: send informational, educational or non-commercial follow-up communications strictly related to the academic or professional guidance previously requested; improve, personalize and optimize the User's experience on the Website; carry out internal analyses, statistical studies and suitability models, always in an aggregated or anonymized manner; ensure the security of the Website and prevent misuse. In these cases, MentorPlaces has carried out the corresponding balancing test of legitimate interest, concluding that such processing does not prevail over the rights and freedoms of the User, who may object to these processing activities at any time under the terms provided for in the applicable regulations.

c) Consent (art. 6.1.a GDPR). MentorPlaces shall request the explicit consent of the User where legally required, in particular for: sending subsequent commercial communications regarding MentorPlaces' own services that are not directly linked to a specific request; sending commercial communications from partner companies or Commercial Partners; transferring personal data to such entities so that they may contact the User directly for commercial purposes. Such consent shall always be freely given and specific, optional and revocable at any time, and the failure to grant it shall not condition access to or use of the Website or the services offered by MentorPlaces. Mandatory or optional nature of the data. Data requested in the Website forms identified as mandatory are necessary in order to manage the request made by the User or provide the corresponding service. Refusal to provide such data may prevent the proper provision of the service or the handling of the request. Data not identified as mandatory shall be optional and failure to provide them shall not prevent access to the Website or the use of its basic functionalities.

Accuracy of the Data Provided

As a user of MentorPlaces, you undertake that the personal data you provide to us through forms or by any other means is truthful, accurate, complete and up to date. It is your responsibility to keep the information provided updated by notifying us of any changes that may occur, in order to ensure that it reflects your current situation.

The provision of incorrect, inaccurate or false data may result in the inability to access and/or use the services of the Website, as well as the possible adoption of legal measures if damages or losses are incurred by the Website or third parties as a result of the inaccuracy of the data provided.

If you provide personal data relating to third parties, you must have obtained their prior and informed consent to share such information. The Website shall not be liable in the event that you do not have such authorization.

Data Retention Periods

The personal data you have provided to us shall be retained indefinitely for as long as the contractual or service relationship with you remains in force and you do not request its deletion.

Once the contractual relationship has ended, the data shall be retained in a blocked or restricted manner for the legally established periods in order to address any potential liabilities arising from the processing. During this period, the data shall not be used for any other purpose.

Where the data is not subject to a specific legal retention period, it shall be retained until you request its deletion, withdraw your consent, or until it is no longer necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, whichever occurs first. Automated decisions and profiling. MentorPlaces does not make automated decisions that produce legal effects on the User or that significantly affect the User in a similar way, within the meaning of Article 22 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The segmentation, recommendation, classification or suitability models used by MentorPlaces are merely indicative and serve as decision-making support, and do not involve the adoption of binding automated decisions without human intervention.
